Yokogawa EJA vs EJX Pressure Transmitters: What's the Difference?
Yokogawa’s EJA-E and EJX-A families use DPharp digital sensing technology, but they are positioned for different levels of performance and application demand. The EJA-E series is Yokogawa’s proven standard-performance line, while EJX-A is the higher-performance series for applications that benefit from greater accuracy, longer stability, wider rangeability or additional diagnostics. Choosing between EJA and EJX should not be reduced to ‘standard versus premium’. The correct choice depends on the measurement type, required uncertainty, operating range, static pressure, process conditions, diagnostics, communication and the lifecycle expectations of the plant.

These are family-level figures from Yokogawa’s current pressure-transmitter comparison and do not replace the General Specification for a particular model. Individual transmitters can have different ranges, pressure limits, response times, seal options and communication choices. Yokogawa also now lists an EJX-S flagship family globally; Tomarok’s current product structure is strongly centered on EJA-E and EJX-A, so this page focuses on the two series most relevant to the existing catalog while acknowledging that the current Yokogawa portfolio continues to evolve.
02 / THE TWO SERIES
PROVEN PERFORMANCE
What Is the EJA-E Series?
EJA-E is the proven choice when the application needs reliable DPharp performance without automatically requiring the highest-performance specification. The family includes differential, gauge, absolute, draft-range, high-static, level and diaphragm-seal configurations. For example, Tomarok’s EJA530E is an in-line gauge pressure transmitter, while the differential-pressure category includes models such as EJA110E and EJA130E. EJA-E is often a strong engineering choice where the specified accuracy, stability and turndown can be achieved without moving to the higher-performance EJX-A family.
HIGH PERFORMANCE
What Is the EJX-A Series?
EJX-A is Yokogawa’s high-performance DPharp family. It covers the same major pressure-measurement roles but is designed for applications where performance margin, long-term stability, wider rangeability or advanced diagnostics are more important. Tomarok’s EJX110A, for example, is a traditional-mount differential pressure transmitter and is listed with a ±0.025% accuracy option and long-term stability of ±0.1% per 15 years. EJX-A is also the family associated with several advanced diagnostic and multivariable capabilities in Yokogawa’s portfolio.
Accuracy and Measurement Uncertainty
If the process measurement is part of a tight mass balance, custody-related calculation, critical control loop or performance test, the additional accuracy available in EJX-A can justify the higher-performance series. For less demanding monitoring or control points, the EJA-E specification may already exceed the actual process requirement. The correct comparison should therefore use the complete loop uncertainty and the required operating range, not the transmitter accuracy number in isolation.
Long-Term Stability and Calibration Strategy
Yokogawa publishes longer family-level stability for EJX-A than EJA-E. This can matter on critical instruments where calibration intervals, access and maintenance cost are important. However, plant calibration policy should still consider the application, environmental conditions, safety requirements and quality system. A longer published stability figure does not remove the need for an appropriate verification strategy.
Rangeability and Operating Window
EJX-A provides up to 200:1 range ability at the family level compared with up to 100:1 for EJA-E. Wider rangeability can be valuable when one instrument must cover a broad operating window, when process conditions change between campaigns, or when a standardization strategy is being developed. It should not be used as a substitute for good sizing: the selected range should still place normal operation in a technically sensible part of the transmitter’s capability.
Diagnostics and Difficult Process Conditions
Applicable EJX-A models support advanced functions such as impulse-line blockage detection and heat-trace monitoring in Yokogawa’s portfolio. These capabilities can be valuable in critical differential-pressure installations, particularly where plugged impulse lines can create a hidden measurement error. The specification should verify that the required diagnostic is actually available on the selected model and communication option rather than assuming every EJX transmitter includes every feature.
04 MEASUREMENT TYPE
EJA vs EJX by Measurement Type
Differential Pressure
For conventional differential pressure, EJA110E and EJX110A are natural counterparts. DP transmitters are used for pressure difference, closed-tank level, filter condition and differential-pressure flow applications. High-static versions such as EJA130E and EJX130A are designed for applications where the line pressure is high while the differential pressure being measured is relatively small. See Tomarok’s differential pressure transmitters category and differential pressure transmitter guide for the wider product and application structure.
Gauge and Absolute Pressure
Gauge pressure is measured relative to local atmospheric pressure and is commonly used for line pressure, open-tank level and blanket-pressure duties. Absolute pressure is referenced to vacuum and is required where atmospheric variation must not become part of the measurement. Yokogawa offers both EJA-E and EJX-A configurations across these applications. The series decision should be made after the pressure type is defined; an EJX gauge transmitter is not a substitute for an absolute transmitter simply because it has higher performance.
Diaphragm Seals and Remote Applications
For hot, corrosive, viscous, sanitary or crystallizing process fluids, the bigger design question may be the process interface rather than EJA versus EJX. A remote diaphragm seal isolates the pressure sensor from the process through a diaphragm and fill fluid. Seal material, capillary length, fill fluid, ambient temperature and elevation can affect response and measurement performance. Tomarok’s diaphragm seal pressure transmitter guide explains when this arrangement should be evaluated.
05 DECISION
Which Series Should You Choose?
- Choose EJA-E when its published accuracy, stability, rangeability and configuration options meet the process specification with appropriate margin.
- Evaluate EJX-A when the application needs tighter accuracy, longer stability, wider rangeability, advanced diagnostics or higher-performance options.
- Do not decide the series before defining gauge, absolute or differential pressure.
- For DP applications, check static pressure as well as differential range.
- For difficult media, evaluate diaphragm seals and wetted materials before focusing on series.
- For retrofit projects, compare the existing model code, process connection, manifold, output protocol and installation dimensions.
