The all-ceramic thermal mass flow probe can be used in a wide range of industrial applications such as water, chemicals, oils and suspension mass flow measurement. To correct for the thermal conductivity of the medium, the mass flow meter is embedded in a suspension density analyzer or chemical concentration analyzer.
The probe is heated to a few degrees above the ambient temperature. When the thermal conductivity increases or the flow rate increases, more heat is absorbed by the liquid. The heat transfer coefficient is a function of variables such as viscosity, Reynolds numbers and mass flow. This function is adjusted by a single-point field calibration. By dividing this mass flow by the ultrasonic suspension density or chemical concentration, the velocity of the medium is accurately determined in m/s. This technology has been shown to be more accurate and repeatable than any other flow meter in the world.
All of Arenal’s ceramic probes are designed to suit abrasive and high mass flow suspension applications. The ceramic sensor is manufactured in Silicon Carbide (SiC), one of the world’s most durable materials. It is much more wear resistant than any other ceramic. Additionally, the acoustic, thermal and physical properties of SiC are excellent for abrasive suspension mass flow monitoring applications.
